I’ve Joined Acquia as Vice President, Large Scale Drupal!

Acquia has an absolutely amazing team - I’ve known many of their key employees and their leadership team for a long time, they are wonderful people who I’ve learned so much from over the years - this was a major reason for my wanting to join the company; I’m truly thrilled to get the opportunity to work more closely with them moving forward.

I’ve followed the impressive growth of Acquia very closely since Dries founded the Company in 2007 – in less then 5 years they have grown to over 200 employees world wide, with offices in multiple countries (their Boston HQ is really impressive – I was blown away by it). They’ve raised over 40mm in venture capitol from great funds, have built several really impressive and successful products and services (including Drupal Gardens, which I use to power this site) and have received numerous accolades, including being named to Forbes' 100 list of America's Most Promising Companies!  I have no doubt that this is just the beginning - the next 5 years will only be more exciting and impressive.

Drupal itself has also seen explosive growth since I first started working with it 8 years ago – it now powers 6.7% of all websites running a known content management system (CMS) which amounts to 1 in 50 websites or 2% of all websites on the Internet.  I’ve met so many talented and smart people through the Drupal community and I’m really happy that I’ll get a chance to continue working with them through my new role at Acquia.

I’ll be writing more about the Large Scale Drupal (LSD) initiative, which Dries officially announced late last month, in the near future - his blog post is a great overview of the program and goals. The program is something I’ve long been passionate about, the LSD initiative is largely based on ideas and work that I did with Acquia while building out NowPublic.com (the first venture-backed Drupal based startup that I took from an idea to a top 500 website) and Examiner.com (which I re-launched as the first top 100 Drupal website) so I hope to hit the ground running with our existing member partners and quickly get up to speed with help from Chris Strahl, the Program Manager, who I look forward to working with on the project.
